[MCP](https://help.inwink.com/mcp?hsLang=en) # What is an inwink extension? ## Learn how inwink extensions work, what they can be used for, the prerequisites you need, and how to create custom tools tailored to your business needs. ### **What is an inwink extension?** An inwink extension is a **custom tool integrated into your inwink environment**, designed to meet a specific business need. It allows you to extend the platform’s native features when a particular need is not covered: create a dedicated view, automate a task, simplify a process, or provide a new way to use the data available in inwink. The goal is not to replace existing features, but to **complement them with a tool tailored to your own use cases**. For example, you can create an extension to: - build a specific dashboard - make participant tracking easier - create an operational tool for your teams - perform specific exports or data processing - create an interface adapted to a process specific to your organization. ➡️ Not all event-related needs are standard. Extensions therefore make it possible to **customize, simplify or speed up certain use cases**. --- ### **How does an extension work?** Creating an extension relies on the inwink MCP. MCP, which stands for *Model Context Protocol*, allows AI to understand the structure of inwink and use the capabilities made available to it to build an extension tailored to your needs. ➡️ **You describe your need → the AI builds it → the MCP connects it to inwink → the extension is integrated into your environment.** The MCP enables the AI, among other things, to identify the right resources, use the appropriate fields and generate an extension that is compatible with inwink. You therefore do not need development skills to get started. The most important thing is to **understand your business need clearly and be able to describe it precisely**. --- ### **Which inwink MCPs are available?** Several MCPs can be used to work with inwink. **🚩 Data MCP:** The Data MCP allows you to **query and explore inwink data using natural language**. For example, it can be used to search for information, analyze data or obtain numerical results. It is not used directly to create an extension. **🚩 Back-office Extension MCP:** The Back-office Extension MCP allows you to **generate an extension for the inwink back office and integrate it into your environment**. The different MCPs therefore do not correspond to different “types of extensions”. They refer to different ways for AI to interact with inwink. --- ### **Where can you create an extension?** An extension can be linked to different scopes in inwink. Depending on your needs, you can create it at: - **audience** level - **event** level - **community** level. The scope you choose depends directly on the intended use of your extension and the data it needs to access. --- ### **What are the prerequisites?** Before creating an extension, make sure you have everything you need. In particular, you must: - have the **inwink AI Pack** - have access to Claude or ChatGPT with support for the required connectors - be an **administrator of the relevant audience, event or community** - sign in to inwink with an account that has the required permissions. A suitable **paid AI client subscription** is recommended for this type of use, especially if you plan to work on extensions regularly. --- ### **How is data secured?** An extension does not access inwink data directly. It uses the mechanisms and APIs provided by the platform, which handle, among other things: - authentication - permission management - controlled access to data - version management - extension publishing. For a back-office extension, hosting can be handled directly within inwink and benefit from the platform’s native authentication and permission mechanisms. The AI builds the extension, but **you remain in control of what is used, tested and published**. --- ### **Where should you start?** Before opening your AI client, start by clearly defining your need in a prompt. Ask yourself a few simple questions: - What problem do you want to solve? - Who will use the extension? - What actions should it allow users to perform? - What data should it use? - What should its interface look like? - What result do you want to achieve?
